of L-LA and TMC has been achieved with binary systems, associating either a metal-based (pre)catalyst or an organocatalyst with (BnOH) acting as a co-initiator and a chain transfer agent. Kinetic monitoring indicated that copolymerizations mediated by the zinc-β-diketiminate system [(BDI)Zn{N(SiMe3)2}]/BnOH proceed by preferential consumption of L-LA first and then of TMC, in contrast to homopolymerizations of the individual monomers that progress roughly at the same rate. In striking contrast, systems based on metal triflates, M(OTf)3/BnOH (M = Al, Bi, Yb), copolymerize TMC faster than L-LA, as established for the first time, while these systems also homopolymerize the individual monomers at about the same rate. Eventually, the [(BDI)Zn{N(SiMe3)2}]/BnOH and M(OTf)3/BnOH systems produce P(LLA-grad-TMC) gradient featuring PLLA and PTMC blocks of significant length (ca. 10 units with Al-, Yb-; ca. 6 units with Zn-, Bi-based systems), as confirmed by analyses. On the other hand, copolymerizations mediated by the -based organocatalyst system TBD/BnOH (TBD = ) gave P(LLA-ran-TMC) . Optimal control of molar masses and dispersities, along with minimized transesterifications, is achieved with the zinc and ytterbium systems. While metal triflates induce partial decarboxylation of TMC units, the zinc and TBD systems are perfectly chemoselective. Kinetic and microstructural control in of L-LA and TMC can thus be achieved via catalytic tuning.

Our local affiliate supplies gas and power to around 17,000 and 31,000 business locations, respectively.

We hold a 100% interest in the Belgian company Lampiris, which supplies natural gas to around 22,000 business locations and 282,000 residential locations.

Our 100%-owned integrated refining and petrochemical complex in Antwerp is one of Europe's most efficient. Its proximity to the Vlissingen refinery in the Netherlands, in which we hold a 55% interest, makes it easier to swap feedstock and finished products.

The Antwerp complex refines crude oil into gasoline, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and jet fuel. It has 35 units that produce ultra-low-sulfur automotive fuel, biofuel and feedstock (naphtha, butane, aromatics, propylene) for petrochemicals manufacturing.

We also operate the Feluy site (south of Brussels), which is home to both a polymer plant and a major R&D center. Feluy houses a demonstration unit to produce olefins (unsaturated hydrocarbons) and polyolefins (plastics) from methanol instead of oil or natural gas. This innovative technology helps diversify the sources of plastics feedstock.

The Feluy site is connected to the Antwerp refinery by a 97-kilometer oil pipeline.

We also market petrochemicals, some of which are sourced from our South Korean joint venture.

In specialty chemicals, our affiliate Hutchinson, which specializes in elastomer processing, markets products in the country.

In Belgium, we have a network of more than 530 service stations.

We are also involved in the production and marketing of petroleum products and related services, including:
- Lubricants for automotive, industrial and marine applications
- Home heating oil
- Asphalt
- Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
- Jet fuel
- Special fluids

Lastly, we have a network of eight depots that includes the following sites: Feluy, Marly, Wandre, KVC Antwerp, Wierde, Marbehan, Bruges and Zeebrugge.
